How long is the tour?
The Haunted History of the Shoals Ghost Walk tour lasts an hour and a half.
How much walking is involved?
Each tour covers about a mile. We walk a ways and tell a story, walk a little farther and tell another story, and so on. All the walking is on flat city sidewalks. There are several benches along the way that can accommodate three or four people.
Many of the stops have steps or curbs where guests can sit and listen to the stories.
Where can I park?
After 5:30 parking in downtown Florence is free. There is usually ample parking around the perimeter of Wilson Park.
Where do we meet?
The Haunted History of the Shoals Ghost Walk Tour meets at the Handy Statue in Wilson Park.
Directions from 72/Florence Blvd:
Take 72 W. As you pass the Florence Cemetery (which will be on your left), take the right lane, following the signs to downtown. After you pass Ryan Piano Company (right), turn right onto Seminary Street. Travel two blocks. The Handy Statue is on the southwest corner of Wilson Park.
What happens if it rains?
If the weather is dangerous — thunderstorms and lightning – tours are canceled. If it’s just a bit drizzly, bring an umbrella!

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
The Haunted History walking tours are 100% wheelchair accessible. If you have a concern about wheelchair accessibility, please let us know when you book your tour and we will make every effort to accommodate the wheelchair.
Do you provide wheelchairs for your guests?
No, unfortunately, at this time we are not able to provide wheelchairs.
Will I be able to hear the guide?
Yes! Your guide is equipped with a tour guide microphone and will ensure that everyone is able to hear.
What about tipping the tour guide?
If you feel you received a great tour and would like to show your appreciation by tipping your guide, we know for a fact she’ll appreciate it.
Can I bring my dog?
Many people walk dogs in downtown Florence. Please keep in mind, however, that you may be on a tour with several other people. If you choose to bring a dog we ask that you use discretion and good judgment.
Can I take pictures on the ghost tours?
Certainly. We just ask that you not use a flash in your guide’s face while she is telling a story.
I know it says the Haunted History tours are appropriate for ages 8 and up, but can’t I bring my younger children?
We certainly understand that certain content will go over the head of a very young child, but young children quickly become bored. Please bring young children at your discretion.
Do you offer anything besides walking tours?
Yes! We offer trolley tours. We can also bring a program on Shoals history to your civic group, newcomers’ club, retirement center, scout troop meeting, etc. Please note that October dates are booked up far in advance. We also offer a step-on guide service for tour buses, and have even come dressed in antebellum costume and served as an open house hostess.
I don’t really like history. Will I like this tour?
Absolutely! And if you liked history before this tour, you’ll LOVE it when we’re finished with you! This is not a dry retelling of facts and dates. A Haunted History walking tour is storytelling at its best. We introduce you to people and events in a way that will make it come alive for you. Even surly skeptics have fun on a Haunted History tour.
Is there anywhere to eat lunch and dinner in downtown Florence?
You betcha! Close to twenty restaurants cater to a variety of tastes, and some are open for breakfast and/or dinner, too. Rosie’s Cantina, Trowbridge’s, Dish, Chicago Café, Legends, and Ricatonis, are just a few of our local favorites.

Yes.
